George Gustavus Charles William du Plat KH (born October 14, 1796 in Lüneburg , † December 21, 1854 in Vienna ) was a royal British major general .

Life

George G. Ch. W. du Plat came from the French noble family du Plat , whose first representative in Germany was Pierre Joseph du Plat (1657–1709), the progenitor of the Hanoverian line. Members of this German line again entered royal Danish and British services. He was the son of the royal Hanoverian and royal British Colonel Georg Carl August du Plat (1770-1815), brigadier of the King's German Legion , and the Caroline Countess von Taube (1773-1837) and became the progenitor of the British line. On February 19, 1820, he received from Hanover the official certificate of membership of the Electorate of Hanover .

For his military services when he was assigned to the army of Catalonia in the First Carlist War in 1839/1840 , du Plat was awarded three medals by Spain's ex-Queen Maria Christina on July 26, 1841 on behalf of her underage daughter Isabella .

In addition to his military career in the Royal Army , in which he made it to the position of Royal British Brigadier General, du was Plat Colonel of the Royal Engineers . He joined the engineering corps on August 1, 1814 as a second lieutenant and was a member of it for 37 years. In the following year 1815 he became First Lieutenant , 1836 Captain , 1839 Major , 1840 Lieutenant Colonel and on November 11, 1851 he was finally promoted to Colonel .

Plat was consul from 1841 to 1851 , then consul general in Warsaw until 1854 . He lived in the Śleszyński Palace (mentioned in 1843). Since August 12, 1854 he was during the Crimean War with the rank of Brigadier General the military representative of England at the headquarters of the Austrian Field Marshal Heinrich Freiherr von Hess . Plat died during his mission at the Austrian headquarters in Vienna and was buried on December 23, 1854, just two days later, with full military honors in accordance with the Austrian protocol, in the presence of Field Marshal von Hess and about 50 generals.

He married as consul in Poland on January 28, 1822 at Hardenberg Castle near Nörten-Hardenberg Pauline Countess von Hardenberg (* December 30, 1800 in Celle , † February 24, 1876 in Nice ), the daughter of Karl Graf von Hardenberg and Friederike Henriette von Kolbe and granddaughter of the royal Hanoverian ambassador, Hans Ernst Graf von Hardenberg . Both sons were the royal British major general and stable master Charles Taylor du Plat (1823-1900).
