George M. Smith (politician)

George M. Smith (born May 18, 1912 in Montreal , Canada , †  October 21, 1962 ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1955 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin .

Career

George Smith attended various schools in Winnipeg . He then worked in various professions. He was a hiring manager for an undisclosed company, a dealer, commercial agent, and manager of the Bryant Wisconsin Company in Milwaukee . He lived in this city from 1941. In 1944 he received American citizenship. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Until 1949 he did not hold any public office.

In 1948, Smith was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside Oscar Rennebohm . He held this office after two re-elections between 1949 and 1955. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Since 1951 he served under the new governor Walter Kohler Jr. After the end of his time as vice governor, he no longer appeared politically. George Smith died on October 21, 1962.
