Gerson Guimarães Ferreira Junior (born January 7, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian soccer player with a Spanish passport. Gerson, who can be used either as a defensive midfielder or a central defender , was most recently under contract with Lechia Gdańsk in Poland.

Athletic career

Gerson started his career in the youth team at Botafogo FR , from where he moved to Europe in 2011 . The midfielder was initially active in the youth department of the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven before moving to Spain for the second team of Atlético Madrid at the beginning of the 2011/12 season.

At the beginning of 2012, the Brazilian moved on to Austria to Kapfenberger SV , where he unsuccessfully fought relegation with the Upper Styrians. He made his debut in the top Austrian league on February 25, 2012 against FK Austria Wien when he played through. The game in Vienna was won 1-0.

In mid-June 2012, SK Rapid Vienna announced that Gerson would be on loan for at least a year at the Vienna football club. After a little less than a year in Vienna, SK Rapid announced that they would not use the option in the loan agreement and that they would no longer use the Brazilian in the further course of the season.

In the summer of 2013 Gerson was loaned to Ferencváros Budapest in Hungary for half a year , before an eighteen-month loan deal with the Romanian first division club Petrolul Ploieşti was agreed in early 2014 . There he only made five appearances in the second half of the 2013/14 season . At the beginning of February 2015 he was signed by the Polish first division club Lechia Gdańsk . In the 2016/17 season he was loaned to Górnik Łęczna . In spring 2018, his contract with Lechia Gdańsk was terminated.
