Jakub Wawrzyniak (born July 7, 1983 in Kutno , Płock Voivodeship ) is a Polish football player . Since 2018 he has been playing for the Polish second division club GKS Katowice .
Club career
Jakub Wawrzyniak made his debut in the Polish Ekstraklasa on March 20, 2004 for Świt Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki against Wisła Kraków (1: 2). His other stations in the top Polish league were Widzew Łódź and Legia Warszawa . From January to July 2009 he was awarded to Greece to Panathinaikos Athens . However, the employment relationship was terminated after it became known that Wawrzyniak had tested positive for methylhexanamine in a doping control . He was then banned by FIFA for 1 year and returned to Legia Warszawa. There he was also suspended in the first half of the 2009/10 season . After the suspension Jakub Wawrzyniak was able to find his way back to his old strength and was a regular player in the defense of Legia Warsaw for the next 4 years. At the beginning of 2014 he moved to Amkar Perm in Russia for a transfer fee of EUR 100,000 . In total, he completed 15 league games for Amkar and scored 1 goal. For the second half of the 2014/15 season he returned to Poland and signed a 2-year contract with Lechia Gdańsk . Here he played until 2018 and then joined second division GKS Katowice .
National team
Wawrzyniak made his debut on December 6, 2006 in the game against the United Arab Emirates for Poland . The then Polish national coach Leo Beenhakker also nominated him for the 2008 European Championships in Austria and Switzerland . Here he was also used in the group game against Croatia . He also took part in the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine , but was not used.
He then continued to be a regular member of the national squad and wore the captain's armband for the first time on February 2, 2013. In qualifying for the 2016 European Football Championship in France, he played 5 of the 10 competitive games and was then in a European Championship squad for the third time . However, like 4 other players in the squad, he did not appear in any tournament and then did not play any more international matches.
