description

The tailed maple grows as a deciduous tree that can reach heights of up to 10 meters. The strong branches have a bark that has elliptical to rectangular lenticels .

The winter buds are oval shaped. The 5-fold, more rarely 7-fold lobed, wide leaves are 8 to 12 centimeters wide and stand on a 5 to 9 centimeter long, red-colored petiole. The lobes are ovate to triangular-ovate and tapered or pointed at the tip. The leaf margin is double or sharply serrated. The upper side of the leaf is dark green and the underside of the leaf is light green. Yellowish hairs are found on the underside of the leaf, while the upper side of the leaf is hairless with the exception of the veins . The leaf surface is membranous.

The tailed maple is Andromonöz . The flowering period includes the month of May and the fruits ripen in September. The red inflorescences are panicle-shaped and stand on 8 to 12 centimeters long stems. The 5 to 8-millimeter long, slender flower stalks have five-fold flowers. The elongated petals are around 7 millimeters long. Eight hairless stamens are formed. The ovary has dense, yellow-colored hairs. A yellowish-brown wing fruit develops from the flower, 2.5 to 2.8 centimeters long and 7 to 9 millimeters thick . The seed itself is flat ovoid.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26.
