The Gmina Biecz ( [ 'bʲɛt͡ʂ ] ) is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Gorlicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name with about 4600 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the north of the powiat about 30 km west of Krosno and 100 km east of Krakow . The Ropa belongs to the waters . Neighboring municipalities are Gorlice, Lipinki, Moszczenica, Rzepiennik Strzyżewski, Skołyszyn and Szerzyny.
The municipality has an area of 99.3 km², 75 percent of which is used for agriculture and 14 percent for forestry.
history
From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the Krosno Voivodeship .
structure
The town-and-country community (gmina miejsko-wiejska) Biecz includes, in addition to the eponymous town, the following ten villages with school administration offices (sołectwa):
Binarowa , Bugaj, Głęboka, Grudna Kępska, Korczyna, Libusza, Racławice, Rożnowice , Sitnica and Strzeszyn.
education
The municipality has eleven elementary schools , six middle schools and two school centers with elementary and middle schools.
Attractions
The city of Biecz is rich in cultural monuments. The center, which was formerly surrounded by a city wall, is a listed building . The valuable historical wooden church in Libusza from 1513 burned down in February 1986. It was rebuilt and again fell victim to the flames in February 2016. In the community are under protection:
- Wooden church in Binarowa, from the 16th century with a bell bearer (19th century)
- Wooden church in Rożnowice from 1756 with a multi-tiered tower
