Gold (III) sulfide is a chemical compound of gold and sulfur . Along with gold (I) sulfide, the black solid is one of the two well-known gold sulfides .

Extraction and presentation

Gold (III) sulfide can be obtained by reacting hydrogen sulfide with gold (III) chloride or tetrachloridoauric acid . The gold (III) chloride is dissolved in diethyl ether .

Gold (III) sulfide is also formed through a reaction of gold (III) acetate and sulfur in decalin .

properties

A crystal structure of gold (III) sulfide is not known, the compound is probably amorphous .

Gold (III) sulfide is soluble in nitric acid , sodium cyanide solutions and concentrated sodium sulfide solutions. In contrast, it does not react with other mineral acids such as hydrochloric or sulfuric acid .
