Gottfried Langwerth von Simmern (* December 19, 1669 in Hattenheim , † June 19, 1741 in Regensburg ) was administrator , later also auxiliary bishop in Regensburg (1717 to 1741).

Life

Gottfried came from the Rhenish noble family of Langwerth von Simmern . He was the son of Georg Christian and Maria Katharina, born in Gemmingen . Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein was his great-nephew.

Since the family belonged to Protestantism for generations , Gottfried's change of faith as a young adult was extraordinary. About the Collegium Germanicum , which he graduated with excellent grades, he received from Pope Innocent XI. assigned a job as Regensburg canon . He received the deacons on June 24, 1698 - and ordained a priest on June 29 of the same year . His tasks were in the diocese administration, in which he also made a career. The effects of the War of the Spanish Succession were also felt in his position . For the underage prince-bishops Clemens August I of Bavaria and Johann Theodor of Bavaria , he carried out the administration of the diocese.

On May 10, 1717, he was finally appointed auxiliary bishop in Regensburg and titular bishop of Germanicopolis .
