Gottfried Ludwig Matthias von Hartmann

Gottfried Ludwig Matthias von Hartmann (born May 14, 1738 in Berlin ; † June 9, 1807 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the 4th Artillery Regiment . On May 4, 1794 he received the recognition and renewal of the Prussian nobility.

Life

His parents were Karl Gottfried Hartmann (* February 15, 1684; † July 29, 1745) and his wife Luise Marie, née Thulmeyer († December 31, 1767). The father was margravial Bavarian and royal Prussian secret war and domain councilor, chamber director and, since January 10, 1744, second director of the Königsberg war and domain chamber . His brother Otto Carl Hartmann (1728–1789) was a Prussian finance advisor.

Military career

In 1754 Hartmann entered Prussian service , joined the field artillery regiment and in 1756 became a fireworker . During the Seven Years' War Hartmann fought in the battles of Prague , Kolin , Liegnitz and Torgau . He was also at the sieges of Prague, Olomouc , Dresden and Schweidnitz. At Kolin and in the battle at Gostyn he was wounded and promoted to second lieutenant on June 11, 1758 and to prime lieutenant on December 27, 1761 .

After the war, Hartmann became a staff captain on December 15, 1768 and captain and company commander on September 23, 1772 . So he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On November 24, 1786 he became a major in the 3rd Artillery Regiment and rose to lieutenant colonel on August 11, 1789 . On April 15, 1792, he was given supervision of the siege equipment that was moved from Magdeburg . During the First Coalition War , Hartmann fought in the sieges of Verdun , Mainz , Landau, the cannonade of Valmy and in the battles near Pirmasens and Moorlautern . For the bombardment of Verdun from August 31 to September 1, 1792 Hartmann received the order Pour le Mérite on September 6, 1792 . On January 3, 1795 he was promoted to colonel and on September 2, 1795 he was appointed commander of the 1st Artillery Regiment . On May 5, 1801, the king appointed him chief of the 4th Artillery Regiment. He also promoted Hartmann to major general on May 29, 1801. During the Fourth Coalition War he was already seriously ill and still came to Corps L'Estocq. He died on June 9, 1807 in Königsberg.

Hartmann married Christiane Wilhelmine Theden, widowed Bolzius, on December 15, 1776 in Berlin. The couple had several children:
