Alexander Luigi Gottifredi

Alessandro Luigi Gottifredi ( also: Aloisius Gottifredi ) (born May 3, 1595 in Rome , † March 12, 1652 ibid) was the 9th general of the Societas Jesu .

Life

Gottifredi entered the Jesuit order in 1610, Paul V was his godfather even before he became Pope. He taught philosophy and theology at the Roman College and was considered an excellent speaker. Like his predecessor, Alessandro Luigi Gottifredi also served as secretary to the long-time Order General Mutio Vitelleschi . He also worked as a visitor to the Neapolitan and Belgian, and as a provincial of the Roman province of the order.

When the 8th Jesuit General Francesco Piccolomini died on January 17, 1651 , the General Assembly of the Order on January 21, 1652 elected Gottifredi as its 9th general.

He served as general of the order for only 50 days and died on March 12, 1652 in Rome.
