Grötsch , Groźišćo in Lower Sorbian , is a district of the municipality of Heinersbrück in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg . Parts of the place were devastated in 1993 in favor of the Jänschwalde open-cast lignite mine , 45 residents had to be resettled.

Grötsch is located in Niederlausitz and is part of the official settlement area of ​​the Sorbs / Wends . Grötsch was first mentioned as Grods in 1344 . In the following period the place name changed from Grodes (1536) to Grezscho (1641) to Groeditz and finally to Grötsch .

From 1985 the relocation of Grötsch was planned. In the same year the connection road to Forst is demolished. 21 of 48 properties were relocated. In 1993, Grötsch was partially excavated in favor of the Jänschwalde open-cast lignite mine. Since 2015, a memorial stone has been commemorating the relocated families in Grötsch .

Since 1995 there has been a new community center in Grötsch . In 2001 the new village hall was built, which is the center of the village community with 120 seats . There is an annual village festival in Grötsch.

After the Congress of Vienna , Grötsch came to the Kingdom of Prussia as part of Niederlausitz . On July 25, 1952, the community was added to the newly formed Forst district in the Cottbus district. After the reunification , Grötsch was in the Forst district in Brandenburg and was part of the Peitz office from July 16, 1992 . After the district reform in Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 , Grötsch finally joined the newly formed Spree-Neisse district . On October 26, 2003, Grötsch was incorporated into Heinersbrück .
