Career

Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre in the Leksands IF jersey

Grand-Pierre began playing ice hockey in his native Montreal and was already used at the age of 16 in the QMJHL , one of the three top youth leagues in North America, at the Beauport Harfangs . The right-handed shooter then played for the Foreurs de Val-d'Or until 1997 and impressed as a defensive back with good positional play. In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , the Canadian was selected 179th by the St. Louis Blues . After playing a year in the AHL for the Rochester Americans farm team , the Buffalo Sabers brought him to the NHL. However, the right-shooter was often sent back to the AHL between 1998 and 2000 and received only a few appearances in the National Hockey League. For the 2000/01 season , Grand-Pierre was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets , where he developed into a regular player and completed most of the games by 2003.

Shortly after the start of the 2003/04 season , the Canadian moved to the Atlanta Thrashers , but was given up after only a few games to the Washington Capitals , where he ended the season. The lockout -Spielzeit 2004/05 earned him first exposure to Europe at IF Troja Ljungby- Sweden. In 2005/06 he defended for the DEL promoted EV Duisburg , of which he finally committed in 2006 to the league competitor DEG Metro Stars . There he received a 1-year contract and then returned to North America.

In August 2008, EV Duisburg again secured the services of the defender who signed a two-year contract in the Ruhr metropolis. After the Füchse bankruptcy in 2009, Grand-Pierre moved to Leksands IF , who loaned him out to Stjernen Hockey from the GET league for ten games in autumn 2009 . In 2012 Grand-Pierre completed seven games in the Oberliga West, again for EV Duisburg. He then moved to eleven games for Karlskrona HK in the Allsvenskan , before he announced his retirement from professional sports.
