Gregory Owen (born June 19, 1981 in Northampton , England ) is a former British ice hockey player who won the Elite Ice Hockey League with Coventry Blaze in 2010 and played for the British national ice hockey team for many years .
Career
Greg Owen began his career as a hockey player with the Oxford City Stars. In 1999 he moved to Canada, where he played for the Notre Dame Hounds in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . After three years he returned to England and initially played both for the Bracknell Bees in the Ice Hockey Superleague , the then top British league, and for Milton Keynes Lightning in the English Premier Ice Hockey League . He was able to win the EPIHL playoffs in 2003 with the team from the planned town in Buckinghamshire . He then played exclusively for the Bracknell Bees, who now competed in the British National League . In 2005 he was able to win the main round of the BNL with the Bees. After the British National League was dissolved in 2005, Owen joined Basingstoke Bison from the Elite Ice Hockey League , now the top British league. In 2008 he moved to France and played with the Diables Rouges de Briançon in Ligue Magnus , the top French division. With the red devils he was able to win the main round of the Ligue Magnus in 2009, but lost the playoff final series against Grenoble Métropole Hockey 38 with 1: 3 games. After this success he returned to the Elite Ice Hockey League and played there for three years for Coventry Blaze . With the team from the West Midlands he won the main round of the EIHL in 2010 and thus the British championship . In 2012 he returned to Basingstoke and ended his career with the club, which now played in the second-rate English Premier Ice Hockey League, in 2013.
International
For Great Britain, Owen took part in the U18-B-European Championship in 1998 and the U18-B-World Championship in 1999 as well as the U20-C World Championship in 2000 and, after switching to the current division system, in the U20 World Championship of Division II in 2001 .
In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2003 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2011 and 2013 . He was also on the ice for his colors at the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014 .
Coaching career
After the end of his active career, Owen started his coaching career. At the 2015 U20 World Cup, he was the assistant coach of the British youngsters who played in Division II. At the 2015 and 2016 World Championships , he was the British men's video coach in Division I.
