The street village of Groß Briesen is a district of Bad Belzig . It is 14 kilometers northwest of the district town of Bad Belzig. The part of the municipality Klein Briesen , which is located 2 kilometers southeast of Groß Briesen, belongs to Groß Briesen. Klein Briesen is a small village consisting of a few courtyards.

General data, naming

Groß Briesen and Klein Briesen are located on the north-western edge of the Hohe Fläming . Neighboring villages are Ragösen in the east , Gräben in the west and Wollin in the north-west . The Briesener Bach rises near Groß Briesen and drains to the lost water towards the northwest. In the same valley a little further east at Klein Briesen, the Klein Briesener Bach rises , which becomes the Bullenberger Bach and drains into the Temnitz .

Groß Briesen is first mentioned around the year 1419/20 and belonged to the von Itzenplitz family . Klein Briesen is mentioned for the first time in Charles IV's land register in 1375.

After it was first mentioned, Groß Briesen is mentioned from 1422 as a fiefdom of the dukes of Saxony-Wittenberg . Klein Briesen, on the other hand, belonged to the Mark Brandenburg . Both districts belonged to different territories of the Holy Roman Empire . The border between the two districts was marked in 1580 by setting up boundary stones.

The half-timbered church in Klein Briesen , which still exists today, was built in 1692 . The church in Groß Briesen was built in 1713 on the remains of field stone from a previous church.

In 1815, the Kingdom of Saxony lost the northern part of its territory to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . The two places Groß Briesen and Klein Briesen are assigned to the newly created district of Zauch-Belzig .

In the First World War 20 men and in the Second World War 27 men from both districts lost their lives.

In the German Democratic Republic , Groß Briesen and Klein Briesen belonged to the Belzig district in the Potsdam district . After the political change , Groß Briesen was an independent village. On December 31, 2002, Groß Briesen became part of Bad Belzig as part of the municipal reform .
