history
Even before the Protected Area Ordinance came into force, numerous areas in today's protected area were under landscape protection. The oldest landscape protection regulation came from 1939 and referred to the Plettenberg near Dotternhausen. The landscape protection area "Großer Heuberg" was temporarily secured by the Balingen District Office as early as 1969.
Since the designation in 1984, the landscape protection area has been reduced in size several times. The reason for this was the designation of several nature reserves, which led to a reduction of a total of 342 hectares. In addition, the internal borders were adjusted in 2003 and 2004. Most recently, the Plettenberg quarry was removed from the landscape protection area.
Contiguous protected areas
Several nature reserves are embedded in the landscape protection area. The FFH area of the Eastern Great Heuberg is largely located in the landscape protection area. Some parts of the landscape protection area belong to the bird sanctuary Südwestalb and Upper Danube Valley .
The conservation area Big Heuberg is immediately adjacent to the landscape protection areas Bäratal , landscape parts of the denunciation Roßwangen and Albstadt- Bitz on.
