course
The Great Ortsbach rises at about 907 m above sea level. NN at the Himmelswiese , exactly where the German-Czech border makes an almost right-angled bend. However, the upper section has little water, so that in some maps the origin is indicated about 1 km downhill on the eastern slope of the Sauberges in the area of the unrest . This forest area was considered by the charcoal burners as a gathering place for spirits. He springs from a wet meadow at the foot of a bismuth - stockpile . At the edge of the forest, it flows through the Adner Raum natural monument . Above the smart houses he picks up the gold Seifen Bächl flowing in from the right . At the Danelhäusel flows from the left about 2.3 km long small Ortsbach , which drains the western slope of the Sauberge and parts of the Rabenberg . At the Mühlanger, the village stream, which has little water and is mostly piped, is recorded from the right, which rises near the Christophorus Church. Shortly before it flows into the Schwarzwasser, it crosses the Hammergraben, which was created for the Breitenhof hammer mill .
particularities
Extensive mining was going on in the upper reaches of the Ortsbach. As early as 1723, 12 mines were listed with the place name "am Ortbach". In the 18th and 19th centuries the Valerian treasure trove and the Blessing of God gallery stood here . The pit Dorothea with a 1888 demolished Huthaus delivered over many decades yield on silver . The Wismut AG / SDAG Wismut overcame the old structures again and operated the 336 shaft management with several tunnels and pits . Their heaps still cover large parts of the landscape today. Tin and gold were soaped at the Gold Seifen Bächl .
The Breitenbrunn paper mill , which produced high-quality paper, stood on the Großer Ortsbach . These became famous because they used Johann Sebastian Bach as music paper. In Niederdorf there was temporarily a stamping mill that processed ores from the mining industry around the Hammerleithe .
The original source of the Great Ortsbach served as a clear landmark when drawing the boundaries of the areas of the Schwarzenberg district office ceded to Bohemia as a result of the Schmalkaldic War in 1546 . After territorial disputes in connection with mining in this area, the unusual borderline was finally drawn in 1556 as a connecting line from the source of the Mückenbach to the north across half a mile to the source of the Großer Ortsbach and from there to the west to the confluence of the Breitenbach into the Schwarzwasser near Wittigsthal .
The large Ortsbach formed the eastern and northeastern border of the Johanngeorgenstädter Bergamtsreviers along its entire length .
