Gustav Lampmann (* 19th May 1885 in Frankfurt am Main ; † 24. August 1970 in Wiesbaden ; full name Gustav Adolf Lampmann ) was a German architect and construction officer, Mr , the less its practical work, but rather by his numerous writings as architectural theorist and Architecture critic received lasting attention.

Professional background

Gustav Lampmann was a son of Dietrich Lampmann, who came from Hohenlimburg , and Bertha, born in Kassel . Böttger. He possibly studied first in Berlin before he enrolled at the Grand Ducal Hessian Technical University in Darmstadt in the summer semester of 1908 . He completed his studies there in the summer semester of 1910 by taking the main diploma examination for building construction. During the First World War , in which he participated as a front-line officer, Gustav Lampmann then registered at the Royal Technical Higher Examination Office in Berlin for the second state examination in building construction, which he successfully passed in May 1917. This was followed by his appointment as Royal Government Builder . In the monthly competition of the architects and engineers in Berlin for December 1918, he took part with the design of a kitchen-cum-living room . Lampmann presumably found employment with the Prussian railway management in his hometown during this time .

When a leave of absence had expired, Lampmann was transferred to the building construction department of the Prussian government in Cologne in April 1922 . In the same year he was appointed government and building councilor . Gustav Lampmann was transferred there in August 1923 to support the Harling government building officer in order to prepare the drafts and carry out several construction measures in the area of the university and the agricultural college in Bonn . Gustav Lampmann headed the Prussian New Building Office of the university in Bonn, where he was assisted by the still young architect Ernst Sagebiel from September to December 1923 , before he entered the Cologne studio of Jacob Koerfer . Before the completion of this work, Lampmann was returned to the Cologne government in May 1924; nevertheless he finished the Bonn projects independently. For a short time in April / May 1926 he was to be transferred to Marburg as a government and building councilor to take over the building construction department I as a member of the board. Instead, however, in July 1926 he was relocated to Bonn for local construction work. In the same year he did his doctorate at the Herzoglich Technische Hochschule Carolo-Wilhelmina in Braunschweig as Dr.-Ing. with a thesis on greenhouse construction.

In addition to his practical work, Gustav Lampmann already appeared in specialist publications as an architecture theorist. This probably resulted in his appointment as an unskilled worker in the building construction department of the Prussian Ministry of Finance in April 1927, to take over the editing (building construction) for the Zentralblatt der Bauverwaltung , alongside Richard Bergius (civil engineering). In 1931 this professional body was merged with the Bauwesen magazine , which Lampmann (building construction) also took over as editor in 1927. In addition, Lampmann also acted as editor of the journal Denkmalpflege und Heimatschutz, also published by the Prussian Ministry of Finance, and as co-editor of its successor, Die Denkmalpflege (1930-1933). In his thoughts on the preservation of monuments and homeland protection, Lampmann was of the opinion that the past-oriented homeland protection must develop into a present-day homeland conservation.

One year after taking up his new position in Berlin, Lampmann was appointed senior government and building advisor in the Prussian Ministry of Finance and, in November 1930, he was appointed ministerial advisor . “ Kießling's informant in matters of modern architecture” left Berlin in 1933 and moved to the Wiesbaden government , where in 1939 he also acted as a district planner. In 1950 he retired from the service.
