Gustav by François
Gustav Adolf von Francois (born March 20, 1815 in Eckhartswalde, Sorau district , † December 29, 1877 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a Prussian major general .
Life
origin
Gustav was a son of the Electoral Saxon captain and lord on Eckhartswalde August von François (1772-1835) and his wife Emilie, née von Zeschau (1784-1862). His older brother Alexander (1813–1861) was district administrator of the Demmin district and general director in Pasewalk
Career
François visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on August 7, 1832, he was transferred to the 13th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant . From the end of May 1842 to the end of September 1848 he was adjutant and accounting officer of the III. Battalion to the 13th Landwehr Regiment and has meanwhile been promoted to Prime Lieutenant . From November 12, 1849 to March 20, 1850 he was assigned to the 16th Landwehr Regiment, where he was assigned to the III. Battalion came to Meschede . Then he was from March 30, 1852 to August 22, 1853 company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 13th Landwehr Regiment. During this time he was promoted to captain on June 22, 1852. On August 19, 1853, he joined the General Command of the VII Army Corps as an adjutant . On January 5, 1856, François became company commander in the 15th Infantry Regiment. Promoted to major on February 12, 1859, he was appointed commander of the 7th Combined Reserve Battalion on March 12, 1859. He was then appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion of the 15th Infantry Regiment on July 1, 1860 and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on March 17, 1863.
During the war against Denmark in 1864, François took part in the assault on the Düppeler Schanzen and the transition to Alsen . For this he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords on March 10, 1864 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed commander of the fortress Weichselmünde and Neufahrwasser on April 3, 1866 . In this position, he received the on 8 June 1868 character as a colonel and mid-September 1869 the Order of the Crown III. Class. On July 26, 1870, François was awarded the patent for his rank and on July 20, 1871 the Emperor awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with bow and swords. Under ceremony of the character as a major general was adjusted François April 15, 1873 Board for disposition made. He died on December 29, 1877 in Charlottenburg.

François married Auguste Fischer (1817–1875) on January 24, 1843 in Münster . The couple had several children including:
