Otto Wilhelm Adolf von der Mülbe (born September 13, 1829 in Danzig , † January 28, 1916 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Otto was a son of the Prussian Colonel Ludwig von der Mülbe (1793–1877) and his wife Frederike Helene, born von Helden-Gowarczewski (1804–1890) from the Radomno family. His younger brother Wilhelm (1834–1909) became a Prussian major general .

Military career

Mülbe attended St. Petri School and high school in his hometown. On April 21, 1848 he joined the 5th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-June 1850 . In the following years he was on the 1st combined reserve battalion, as adjutant of the III. Battalion in the 5th Landwehr Regiment in Prussian Stargard and commanded to the Infantry Training Battalion . From September 1, 1858 to March 30, 1861, Mülbe was adjutant of the 1st Battalion and rose to captain and company commander by mid-April 1863 . As such he took part in the fighting at Königgrätz and Tobitschau in 1866 during the war against Austria . In the battle of Trautenau , Mülbe took over command of the 10th and 11th companies for his fallen battalion commander von Wenckstern, was able to occupy a wooded height and cover the retreat of his own troops. For this he was awarded the Order Pour le Mérite on September 20, 1866 .

After the peace agreement , he was transferred to the newly formed Infantry Regiment No. 74 in Cologne . There Mülbe was promoted to major and commander of the fusilier battalion on July 20, 1870 . He led his battalion in the battles at Spichern , Colombey and Gravelotte , the sieges of Metz , Diedenhofen , Montmédy and Mézières , and the battles at Bois de Vaux, Servigny and Pontarlier . Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Mülbe was transferred to the Emperor Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment No. 2 on December 12, 1873 as commander of the Fusilier Battalion and was promoted to colonel by mid-June 1879. family

Mülbe married Katharina Conwentz (1838–1877) in Danzig on November 30, 1858. After her untimely death, on July 29, 1879, he married Adele von François (* 1845), a daughter of the Prussian Major General Gustav von François (1815–1877). The following children emerged from the marriages:
