The Pallpata district is located in the Espinar Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on November 17, 1917. It has an area of 817 km². The 2017 census counted 5163 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5263, in 2007 it was 5270. The district administration is located in the small town of Héctor Tejada with 2667 inhabitants at an altitude of 3980 m (as of 2017). Héctor Tejada is located 24 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Yauri .
Geographical location
The Pallpata district is located in the Andean highlands in the east of the Espinar province. The district has a length in north-south direction of almost 50 km and a maximum width of almost 35 km. In the east a mountain range extends in a north-south direction. The area is drained to the northwest via the Río Salado . In the extreme south of the district is the mountain lake Laguna Sutunta.
The Pallpata district is bordered in the extreme south by the Condoroma district , in the southwest by the Ocoruro district , in the west by the Espinar district , in the northwest by the Alto Pichigua district , in the east by the Macari , Cupi and Llalli districts (all three in the province Melgar ) and in the extreme southeast to the district of Ocuviri ( Province of Lampa ).
