The Hösbach flows into the Aschaff

The Hösbach is a 5 km long right tributary of the Aschaff in the area of the Markt Hösbach in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg .

Surname

The name " Hösbach " is made up of the Middle High German words hôst (highest) and bach . They probably refer to the headwaters. The Hösbach gave the places Hösbach and Wenighösbach their names.

geography

course

The Hösbach rises in a forest area between Wenighösbach and the Mömbris district of Daxberg, northwest of it, near the municipal boundary . It initially flows south-east, first crossing Wenighösbach, from where the district road 10 accompanies it and where the wine pit runs towards it from the left . Further down the valley, it then separates Münchhof on the left bank from an elongated pond on the right, after which it gradually turns to the south-south-west after halfway.

Soon he reaches the building of a brickworks in the floodplain in front of the main town Hösbach, behind it flows from the right the Untere Hösbach and soon afterwards from the same side its largest tributary Afferbach , which comes from Oberafferbach and whose overall length is somewhat longer than his. Here he walks in the village between the gardens bordering the shore. The development of Hösbach now spreads far across the Bachaue on both sides. The stream flows right past the old town center and crosses under the B 26 . Immediately afterwards the Hösbach flows into the Aschaff from the right and north opposite the housing of the A3 .

Flood

The Holy Nepomuk at Hoesbach Bridge

In May 1931 a severe storm hit the Aschaffenburg district . Hösbach was hit particularly badly. Here fell 93 liters per square meter . Large volumes of water came from Wenighösbach and Unterafferbach so quickly that a retaining wall collapsed. Entire streets were torn up by the floods . Some farmers even carried their cattle on their shoulders from the flooded pastures . Seven people were standing on a bridge to watch the flood , when suddenly the bridge collapsed. The violence of the water killed two children and two men. The fathers tried to save their children and jumped into the raging waters themselves. Normally one meter wide and fifteen centimeters deep, Hösbach had reached enormous size that evening. In places it was 30 m wide and 5 m deep. A statue of St. Nepomuk was erected on the Hösbach Bridge, where the accident happened, to commemorate the victims .
