history

Haaren was first mentioned in a document as Hare in 1217 . The place name can indicate a hag or a hill. Another documentary mention was made in 1328 when ten bishops in Avignon signed a letter of indulgence for the Haaren church of St. Jans-Klus. Until 1804, Haaren belonged to the Waldfeucht parish. From 1797 to 1815 Mairie Haaren, like Braunsrath and Waldfeucht, belonged to the canton of Heinsberg in the Département de la Roer . Then the place comes to the Prussian district of Heinsberg . In 1935 the Waldfeucht office was formed with the mayor offices of Braunsrath, Haaren, Saeffelen and Waldfeucht. Brüggelchen , Driesch, Frilinghoven , Neuhaaren and Soperich also belonged to this mayor's office in Haaren . On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Waldfeucht was formed from the Waldfeucht office - except for Saeffelen. Hair is thus incorporated into Waldfeucht.
