action

Marnie Piper and her mother Gwen discuss why Marnie is never allowed to attend the Halloween festival. Gwen rejects all kinds of magic and spooks, unlike her mother Agatha. It turns out that the women belong to a family of witches . Marnie's grandmother, Agatha Cromwell, plans to start her granddaughter's lessons as a witch. However, Gwen wants Marnie to grow up as a normal person and discusses it with Aggie.

Aggie leaves the house after an argument. Marnie and her siblings Dylan and Sophie sneak after their grandmother and take the bus to Halloweentown, a city where Halloween is celebrated every day and monsters, witches and ghosts live together peacefully. Aggie and the whole Cromwell family are considered powerful witches there. Aggie had tried to ask Gwen for help: Witches keep disappearing in Halloweentown, and only Mayor Kalabar is interested in them.

Aggie and Gwen, who followed their children, fall into the clutches of a demon who petrifies the population. Marnie and her siblings only have the chance to activate Aggie's magical scepter of Merlin and collect ingredients for it.

Marnie thinks that she has to face the fight alone as the oldest and faces the demon, who turns out to be a calabar, who wants to bring about the domination of the haunted figures over the real world. She has to stick the scepter into a giant pumpkin, but fails. Only when her grandmother, her mother, her sister, her brother and the goblin Luke help her, Kalabar is finally defeated and driven out of the city. In the end, Marnie is trained as a witch.
