Season south
The SG Dynamo mid / EGS Suhl playful the season victory after they were able to win only one point from their last four away games. So also in the south the games had to decide on the relay victory if there was a tie. With one more goal, the BSG mining lamp Zwickau decided this comparison against Suhl for itself and was considered a climber in the top division. By a decision at the "green table" after the end of the season, Suhl, who got the game at Aue II (26:26), moved back to first place in the table, which in turn entitled to promotion to the handball GDR league. Zwickau lodged a protest against this judgment, so that the DHV legal commission set playoffs, which were then played five months after the last league game. In a necessary 3rd game on a neutral place in Apolda , Zwickau then prevailed and finally rose to the top division. With the Army Sports Association (ASG) Officers' College Löbau , the relegated from the Oberliga came in fourth place, as in the northern relay. Of the three newcomers from the district league, only the company sports community (BSG) LVB Leipzig was able to hold the class. Motor Bernburg, which lost in the relegation to the second representation from Empor Rostock , like the second representation from Wismut Aue, went back to the third class after only one year. Both were accompanied by the BSG unit Halle-Neustadt, which played in the major league in 1980/81 .
