Hannibal Amir Buress (born February 4, 1983 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actor , writer and stand-up comedian .

life and career

Hannibal Buress grew up as the son of a railroad worker and a teacher in the Chicago suburb of Austin. They named him after the Carthaginian general Hannibal Barkas . After school, he briefly attended Steinmetz College Prep and Southern Illinois University Carbondale .

His breakthrough in comedy came in 2010 after appearing on The Awkward Comedy Show . As a result, he was able to publish his first comedy album. From 2009 to 2010 Buress was active as a sketch writer on Saturday Night Live . He was also involved as a writer for the fifth season of the sitcom 30 Rock . In 2012 his second comedy album Animal Furnace followed , which received positive reviews.

For the comedy show The Eric André Show on Adult Swim , he co-hosts and writes alongside Eric André . He also appears regularly as a comedian in late-night shows, such as Jimmy Kimmel , David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon . In his hometown of New York at the time , he often performed on Sunday evenings at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn .

Since 2009, Buress has also appeared in film and television. In addition to guest appearances such as in The Mindy Project or Bob's Burgers , he played a recurring role in Broad City as Lincoln Rice from 2014 to 2016 . He has also been in films such as Bad Neighbors , The Nice Guys , Angry Birds - The Film , The Disaster Artist or as a sports teacher Wilson in Spider-Man: Homecoming .

In 2017, Buress moved from New York back to Wicker Park, his native Chicago.

In 2018 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
