Hans Conried
Hans Georg Conried, Jr. (born April 15, 1917 in Baltimore , Maryland , † January 5, 1982 in Burbank , California ) was an American voice actor as well as film , television and stage actor .
Life
Conried was born in 1917 to Hans Georg Conried (1883–1953), a Jewish immigrant from Vienna , and Edith Beryl, née Gildersleeve, (1892–1970), a descendant of the Pilgrim Fathers . He grew up in Baltimore and New York City . He studied acting at Columbia University . During World War II , he joined the US Army in 1944 .
In 1937 he first appeared on the radio for a performance in The Taming of the Shrew . He was a member of Orson Welles ' Mercury Theater . He made his Broadway debut with a role in Can-Can in 1953. This was followed by roles in stage works such as Tall Story (1959), 70, Girls, 70 (1971), Irene (1973–1974) and Something Old, Something New (1977 ). He made his film debut in 1938 at Robert Sinclair Dietz ' Dramatic School . This was followed by numerous appearances in television series such as Gilligan's Island and in numerous films until his death in the 1980s ; he is best known for his embodiment of Dr. Terwilliker in The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T. He also lent his voice in numerous cartoon films and series, such as Captain James Hook in the Disney film Peter Pan in 1953 . He was also the narrator of the Oscar-winning short film Cat and Mouse in waltz time .
On January 29, 1942, he married Margaret Grant, with whom he had four children. Conried died of a heart attack in 1982 at the age of 64. He bequeathed his body to science. Conried was a Jew .
Conried was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (6664 Hollywood Blvd. ) in the television category.
