Hans Schulze (born October 7, 1930 in Bochum ) is a German actor .

Life

From 1950 to 1953, Hans Schulze completed an acting training at the drama school in Bochum , formerly the Westphalian drama school . First theater engagements followed in Bonn, Münster, Oldenburg and Basel.

From 1963 to 1968 he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden . There he played the Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare , the Stauffacher in Wilhelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller , the Robespierre in Danton's Death by Georg Büchner and the Gennadi in Der Wald by Alexander Ostrowskij .

From 1968 to 1979 Schulze was engaged at the Schauspiel Köln , where he worked out other important theater roles. He appeared there in the role of the Greek god Dionysus in the two plays The Bacchae by Euripides and in The Frogs by Aristophanes . He also played King Claudius in Hamlet by William Shakespeare , Antonius in Antonius and Cleopatra , also by Shakespeare, Mephisto in Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Piccolomi in Wallenstein by Friedrich Schiller , the Hagen in Die Nibelungen by Friedrich Hebbel , the master Anton in Mary Magdalene , also from Hebbel, the Luka in Depths of Maxim Gorky and Macheath in the Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill .

From 1979 to 1981 Schulze was a member of the Stuttgart State Theater . During this time he took over the role of King Philip in the dramatic poem Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller. At the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim an der Ruhr he played the Schigolch in Lulu by Frank Wedekind .

From 1983 to 1986 an engagement at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus followed , from 1986 to 1989 another engagement at the Bavarian State Theater . In Munich, Schulze played, among other things, Jacques in As You Like It by William Shakespeare, the Marquis de Sade in Marat / Sade by Peter Weiss and in 1986 the title role in the world premiere of the play Ich, Feuerbach by Tankred Dorst .

From 1992 to 1994 Schulze was engaged at the Bremen Theater. In 1999 he appeared at the Nationaltheater Mannheim as Grand Inquisitor in Schiller's Don Carlos . In 2002 he played William von Baskerville in a stage version of the novel The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco .

The highlight of Schulze's theater career were his appearances at the Salzburg Festival . There he played in 1984 and 1985, the title role in Nathan the Wise by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing . The production, directed by Johannes Schaaf , in which, in addition to Schulze, Suzanne von Borsody , Rosemarie Fendel and Sylvester Groth , was recorded by the ORF and has since been released as a live recording on DVD.

From the 1950s onwards, Schulze also starred in some feature films and TV films. Schulze made his film debut in 1955 in a supporting role in the DEFA film Ernst Thälmann - Leader of His Class . In the 1960s he was to be seen, among others, under the direction of Fritz Umgelter and Franz Josef Wild , in several television plays and television films. In 1977 he had a role as a US lieutenant in the feature film From a German Life . In 1979 Schulze played in the multi-part TV series Jauche und Levkojen . Schulze was director of the drama school in Bochum from 1995 to 1998. In 1996 he was awarded the title of professor.
