origin

Strantz came from the line of his Petershagen Brandenburg, originally immigrated from Thuringia Uradelsgeschlechts . He was the son of the landlord on Petershagen in the Lebus district , Albrecht Ehrenreich von Strantz (1711–1766) and his wife Johanna Henriette, née von Rohr (1716–1745) from the Wilmersdorf house.

Military career

Although Strantz was an estate heir as the eldest son, he chose the soldier profession and became a cavalryman in 1756. With the Dragoon Regiment "von Oertzen" he took part in the battles at Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Roßbach , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Hochkirch , Liegnitz and Torgau during the Seven Years' War . After the war he was promoted to prime lieutenant in May 1769 and was employed as a staff captain during the War of the Bavarian Succession in the battle near Bunzlau.

He took part in the First Coalition War against revolutionary France as a colonel and commander of the "von Katte" dragoon regiment . At Kaiserslautern , Strantz and his dragoons captured two squares , and he was also able to capture two cannons and a flag. For this, King Friedrich Wilhelm II awarded him the order Pour le Mérite on October 22, 1792 . On May 1, 1795 he was appointed major general and two months later inspector general of the Pomeranian inspection of the cavalry. In addition, on January 23, 1797, the king appointed him chief of the “von Prittwitz” dragoon regiment . In addition to his military duties, he was also the governor of Angerburg.

Due to his poor health dimittierte Strantz on 2 October 1800 an annual pension of 1600 thalers.
