Ludwig Gotthilf Erdmann von Paulsdorff (born November 8, 1769 in Breslau , † August 9, 1830 in Swinoujscie ) was a Prussian major general and lord of Paulsdorf in the Cammin district .

Life

origin

He was the son of Ernst Ludwig von Paulsdorff (* 1723; † September 5, 1791) and his wife Rahel Dorothea, born von Lüttichau (* 1753; † April 19, 1789). His father was a Prussian colonel and served as an assessor in the 7th Department of the Upper War College.

Military career

In 1784 Paulsdorff joined the infantry regiment "von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel" of the Prussian army as a private corporal . Three years later he was transferred as a Junker to the “von Goetzen” dragoon regiment , in which Paulsdorff was promoted to second lieutenant until July 1791 . In the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade of Valmy , the battle of Kaiserslautern and the battles near Homburg, Limbach, Hornbach, Nutzweiler, Weißenburg, Stromberg and Eschweiler. On July 27, 1801 he rose to prime lieutenant and shortly before the start of the Fourth Coalition War , Paulsdorff was promoted to staff captain on September 13, 1806 . During the war he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt , was on the decline in the fortress Szczecin and clashed with the local capitulation briefly in captivity . After his release and the Peace of Tilsit , Paulsdorff was made inactive.

On May 17, 1809 Paulsdorff was aggregated to the Neumärkische Dragoon Regiment and on June 7, 1809 came as an adjutant to Colonel von Heister with a salary of 40 thalers and three rations. On February 5, 1810, he was promoted to captain and on March 14, 1812 to major . During the Russian campaign in 1812, Paulsdorff was first adjutant to Colonel von Jeanneret , then Colonel von Corswant . In this capacity he took part in the battles near Eckau , Wollgund and Klievenhof.

On March 20, 1813, Paulsdorff came to General von Katzler as adjutant . During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Katzbach , Leipzig , Laon , Paris , Ligny , Belle Alliance and the transition near Wartenburg and the battles near Colditz, La Chaussee, Montmirail, Oulchy le Chateau and the siege of Maulbeuge. For Bautzen Paulsdorff received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of Saint Anna II. Class, for Katzbach the Order of Saint Vladimir IV. Class and for Belle Alliance the Iron Cross I Class.

On October 3, 1815, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel with a patent from October 7, 1815 , and on March 2, 1816, he was aggregated to the Queen Dragoons regiment . With a patent dated April 5, 1819, Pulsdorff became a colonel on March 30, 1819. On April 3, 1820, he was appointed commander of the 8th Uhlan Regiment , but Paulsdorff did not receive the corresponding salary. Therefore, on May 4, 1822, he was granted an allowance of 200 thalers. On March 20, 1829 Paulsdorff received his departure as major general with an annual pension of 1750 thalers. He died on August 9, 1830 in Swinoujscie.

General Katzler wrote in his assessment in 1815: “Has been adjutant for more than ten years, has had the opportunity to prove his knowledge with the various generals in which he holds this post. His leadership is impeccable and he looks forward to the highest consideration for advancement as soon as possible. "

Paulsdorff was married three times. His first wife was Emilie von Stutterheim . He then married Henriette Helene Charlotte von Strantz (* March 31, 1777; † 1863), a daughter of Major General Hans von Strantz . This marriage was divorced on December 4, 1817. In his third marriage, Paulsdorff was married to Marianne Friederike Leopoldine Schlegel (* 1792; † July 24, 1869), a daughter of the mint director Johann Andreas Schlegel († September 26, 1815), from April 6, 1818.

According to the nobility lexicon of the Prussian monarchy , the Paulsdorff family died out on June 3, 1843 with Major E. von Paulsdorff.
