Andreas Georg Friedrich von Katzler (born January 26, 1764 in Grimminghausen ; † July 12, 1834 in Wittenfeld ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , most recently in command of Danzig and master of Wittenfelde.

He was a grandson of the Prussian Lieutenant General Nikolaus Andreas von Katzler . His father was the major in the cuirassier regiment "Prince of Prussia" Georg Ludolf von Katzler (born September 5, 1727, † February 18, 1779). Military career

In 1778 Katzler became a junker in the von Belling hussar regiment . In the War of the Bavarian Succession he fought in the battles near Zwickau and Gabel. On January 4, 1780 he was promoted to cornet and on April 10, 1784 to secondary lieutenant and took part in the First Coalition War. He fought in the battle of Kaiserslautern as well as the battles near Schwalm, Hasnon, Coutiche, Weidenthal, Kirrweiler and Edesheim. At the suggestion of his then commander Blücher , Katzler received the order Pour le Mérite on August 23, 1793 . During this time he was on September 7, 1793 Prime Lieutenant and on May 29, 1794 staff assistant master . After the war, Katzler became captain and squadron chief on February 24, 1798 . On October 4, 1808, Katzler was appointed commander of the Upper Silesian Hussar Regiment, but withdrew on December 5, 1808 and appointed commander of the 2nd Uhlan Regiment on February 18, 1809 . On March 10, 1809 it became the West Prussian Uhlan Regiment. On March 14, 1813, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . During the Wars of Liberation , Katzler came to the York Corps as leader of the vanguard . He fought at Großgörschen , for which Katzler was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class and the Iron Cross II. Class was awarded, as well as at Bautzen . He was seriously injured in the battle near Möckern . Katzler recovered and took part in the battles of Katzbach (Iron Cross 1st class), Leipzig , Laon and Paris . He also fought at Brina, Reichenbach , Haynau , Löwenberg, Bunzlau, Hochkirch and Bischofswerda. With his corps he forced the passage at Wartenburg and fought at La Chaussee, Chalons, Chateau Thierry , Montmirail , Mery and Claye .

On June 25, 1813, Katzler became a colonel and on December 8, 1813, he was promoted to major general with a patent from December 12, 1813 . But his health had suffered greatly. Therefore Katzler left the 1st Uhlan Regiment on January 19, 1814. For this he received the Swedish Order of the Sword on April 24, 1814 . On May 23, 1815 he was brigade commander of the reserve cavalry of the IV Army Corps and on July 13, 1815 brigade chief. In addition, on October 3, 1815, he received a gift of 2,000 thalers. On March 30, 1818 Katzler became lieutenant general and on April 3, 1820 first commander of Danzig and commander of the 2nd division . On June 13, 1825 he received his retirement with a pension and the Order of the Red Eagle First Class.

Katzler retired to his Wittenfeld estate, where he died on July 12, 1834 and was buried on July 18, 1834.
