Hans von Winterfeld

Hans Karl August von Winterfeld (born February 27, 1857 in Prenzlau , † November 15, 1914 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian infantry general and governor of the Metz fortress .

Life

The son of Major Karl von Winterfeld and Betty Baath was adjutant of the 34th Infantry Brigade in Schwerin . After commanding a battalion from 1899 to 1902 , he was lieutenant general from April 22 to November 18, 1912, commander of the 35th division and from February 4, 1913 to March 2, 1914, commander of the 17th division . Winterfeld then became governor of the strategically important Metz fortress.

He also held this position after the beginning of the First World War .

He was married to Martha von Horn (1860-1934). Winterfeld died in November at the age of 58 in Wiesbaden. Hans von Winterfeld and his wife found their final resting place in the Invalidenfriedhof Berlin . The grave is marked with a restitution stone.
