Haplogroup J is a haplogroup of the Y chromosome in human genetics . It is differentiated by the genetic marker 12f2.1 and the similar markers M304 and P209.

origin

Haplogroup J is believed to have originated 31,700 years ago (plus or minus 12,800 years) in the Middle East (Semino et al . 2004). It is most closely related to haplogroup I because I and J are descendants of haplogroup IJ (S2, S22). Together with the haplogroups G, H and K, as well as IJ, are derived from haplogroup F in sequence . The subgroups J1 and J2, which meanwhile make up the entire haplogroup, are said to have originated very early about 10,000 years ago.

Distribution of haplogroup J
Distribution of haplogroup J1
Distribution of haplogroup J2

Haplogroup J is found in its highest concentration in the Caucasus and Southwest Asia . Outside of these regions, haplogroup J is moderately distributed in southern Europe (especially in central and southern Italy , in Greece and in Albania ), as well as in central Asia and in southern Asia , especially in the form of its subgroup J2-M172. Haplogroup J is also found in North Africa and the Horn of Africa , mainly in the form of its subgroup J1-M267. Subgroups J2a and J2a1b1 are mostly found in Greece, Anatolia, and southern Italy.
