In 1976 he contested his first and only race in the Formula 1 world championship at the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway . In this rainy race he started from position ten and was named after the race as the driver of the fastest race lap . It was not until several days after the race that the track operator published a press statement that it was a measurement error and that Jacques Laffite actually drove the fastest lap of the race in Fuji. Outside of Japan, however, this news was only noticed to a limited extent, which is why Hasemi is still listed in some history books as the driver of one of the fastest racing laps in Formula 1.
In the end, however, he did not reach a point for the drivers' world championship. The winner at the time was Mario Andretti on Lotus . Hasemi, who drove for the Japanese team Kojima , reached the finish line in eleventh place, seven laps behind. Even famous drivers like Emerson Fittipaldi , Niki Lauda or Carlos Pace gave up this race (the last of the season) due to the weather. Today Hasemi drives sports car races - also in Germany , e.g. B. on a Dodge Viper .
