Haunted is the tenth studio album by the US band Blood on the Dance Floor . It was released on February 16, 2018.

backgrounds

Fallon Vendetta and Dahvie Vanity produced and wrote all the tracks on the album themselves. In the creation of Haunted , the two band members acted cathartically and tried to lyrically work through difficult periods in their lives that haunted them emotionally. On the album, Dahvie Vanity processed his depression , which in the past also led to suicidal thoughts , and deliberately dispensed with the sexually explicit lyrics that have become the band's trademark for the purpose of depth of content. Thus, after Scissors , it is the band's second work that does not contain any offensive music.

Haunted appeared in three different versions. The Standard Edition, which is available as download and stream , only contains the 10 regular songs on the album. There is also a deluxe edition, also available in the same formats, which has an acoustic version of The Ocean & The Moon as a bonus track , as well as instrumental versions of all ten main tracks. Most recently, a limited CD version was offered in the band's online shop , which is similar to the Deluxe Edition, but lacks the instrumentals for My Last Breath , Otherside of Fear and World of Secrets , and replaced them with the exclusive bonus track The Runaways . This was announced as the band's last CD release, but similar limited physical editions of further studio albums, compilations and re-releases followed.

Six singles were released from the album: Otherside of Fear , World of Secrets , Ashes To Ashes , Haunted House , From Dreams To Nightmares and The Ocean & The Moon . The first two singles were released under a pseudonym , namely Master of Death and Sinners are Winners . Both were used by Dahvie Vanity at earlier times for various solo side projects apart from Blood on the Dance Floor. However, Fallon Vendetta can be heard on both songs as well as on the single covers.

In addition to the singles, the album was also preceded by an EP called Emotional , which already contained four songs from the album. Appropriately, Haunted was also referred to by the band as The Emotional LP at the beginning .

Music and lyrics

On Haunted , as with the previous album Kawaii Monster , no uniform sound can be determined, as the musical influences cover a wide spectrum. However, all titles are assigned to the superordinate genre of electronic music . The song, which is played on the album for the good is mostly clear, only to From Dreams To Nightmares and World of Secrets come screamo vocals are used, these only a small part of in the former outros account. Also rapped passages occur at irregular intervals.

The Ocean & The Moon is a love song that has the main theme of the relationship between the band members who were engaged at the time of release. My Last Breath gives place to Fallon Vendetta's vocal singing, which is accompanied by a piano and spherical keyboard sounds. From Dreams To Nightmares is a dark wave song about a failed relationship in which the sung person felt the first-person narrator was being treated badly. The male part describes his only revenge on the woman, who hurt him so much, to have found someone who loves him more. Haunted House has elements of the Eurodance and Bubblegum Dance genres, while Chain of Memories , Ashes To Ashes, and Ghost Story are most likely to be attributed to synth-pop . Also Emotional possesses strong bonds of the genre, but includes with its rapid hi-hats also significant trap elements. It is explicitly about Dahvie Vanity's depression. Other Side of Fear provides music and content to continue the same concept album of Dahvie Vanity search solo project Master of Death . With harder drum kits, dominant Supersaw melodies, heavy guitars , with different effects alienated vocal parts and Rappassagen is a bridge to said musical work beaten; at the end of the song the leitmotif that ran through the entire concept album can be heard on a music box . In terms of content, a continuation of the story of the same announces that Ultima, the antagonist of the album, has returned. World of Secrets fits in seamlessly with the other songs released under the name Sinners are Winners , as it is an atmospherically dark industrial metal title. In terms of song and music, it is clearly the heaviest song on the album, which relies on screamo vocals and electric guitars artificially alienated in the chorus .

Cover design

The cover artwork of the Standard Edition and the limited CD version is in black and white and shows Fallon Vendetta and Dahvie Vanity partially transparent in front of leafless trees from which ravens rise. Vendetta's gaze looks troubled, Dahvies sure. The latter holds a red rose in his hand, which is highlighted in color. Also in red in the album title, which takes up about the lower quarter. Below it is the band name in the same shade, much smaller.

The cover of the Deluxe Edition shows a completely different motif. This is kept in color and shows the two band members with eye-catching make-up and pale contact lenses that almost merge with the iris . Vendetta raises her right hand , creating a cloud of smoke . The color scheme is predominantly black and is contrasted with a poisonous yellow-green that occurs in the hair of both musicians, the smoke and the lettering. The latter take up just under the lower half of the picture. As with the Standard Edition, the album title is significantly larger than the band name above it.
