life and work

Scheele completed her studies in stage design and costume design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (with Erich Wonder ) with the Koloman Moser Prize in 1985 and then worked as an assistant at various theaters and opera houses in Berlin. In 1989 she began her career as a freelance artist in spoken theater, musicals, operettas and operas. Her first productions included Shakespeare's Hamlet , Molières Tartuffe , Chekhov's Möwe , Bizet's Perlenfischer and Schumann's Genoveva , but also West Side Story , Countess Mariza and the German premiere of Tan Dun's opera Tee . Since 2008 Scheele has been working mainly as a set designer.

From 1999 to 2013 she had an intensive relationship with the director Stefan Herheim , which began with a Magic Flute and a Falstaff in Oldenburg and led both to Linz and Graz, Riga, Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen, Brussels, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Dresden. In 2008, at the Bayreuth Festival, an initially heavily controversial, then just as heavily acclaimed Parsifal was created , for the first time together with costume designer Gesine Völlm , who was part of the Herheim / Scheele team in the following years. In 2011, the trio was invited to the Salzburg Easter Festival and presented an eccentric Salome interpretation. The bulky Parsifal from Bayreuth was also broadcast live in numerous cinemas in German-speaking countries in 2012. A Meistersinger von Nürnberg production at the 2013 Salzburg Festival , which was acclaimed by the public and the press , was and will also be re-enacted at La Scala in Milan , the Paris Opéra and the New York Met . Both the Bayreuth Parsifal and the Salzburg Meistersinger were conducted by Daniele Gatti .

In 2014 she designed the sets for Millöcker's begging students at the Magdeburg Theater (director: Nico Rabenald ) and for Die Frau ohne Schatten by Hofmannsthal / Strauss at the Leipzig Opera (director: Balázs Kovalik ). In 2015 she worked with director Johannes Erath at the Frankfurt Opera on the rarely performed Euryanthe by Carl Maria von Weber. This was followed by stage design and costumes for the world premiere of Hölderlin - An Expedition by Peter Ruzicka at Theater Basel . It staged Nemirova it with the composer conducting. In March 2016, an anticipated new production of Verdi's Un ballo in maschera had its premiere at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. It was again staged by Johannes Erath, and it was conducted by Zubin Mehta . This production was also shown at the Munich Opera Festival , but with Daniele Callegari on the podium.
