history

In 1910 the farmers in Blankenhagen were incorporated into Gütersloh. Since the peasantry was predominantly Protestant, the few Catholics belonged to the parish of St. Pankratius in Gütersloh. After the Second World War, the number of Catholic believers increased sharply. In 1946 the service began to be celebrated in a classroom at the Blankenhagen school. The congregation sat in school desks and a makeshift altar was set up. From this community grew the desire for their own place of worship.

In autumn 1949 this wish was put into practice and the first wooden church was built. On Christmas Day 1949 the first holy mass could be read there. In 1954 a small youth home was added.

The number of believers continued to grow and on May 1, 1957 a parish vicarie was set up without its own asset management. This was granted to the community on April 1, 1962.

On June 30, 1962, the community founded a church building association. After donations had been collected, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building took place on June 23, 1964. The foundation stone was laid on September 26, 1964, and the topping-out ceremony on October 15, 1964. The rapid construction progress was due to the sliding construction method , which was new for the Gütersloh area at the time. The new bells could be consecrated on December 19, 1964, so that the first service took place in the church on December 24, 1964. On May 28, 1966, the church and the adjacent parish center were consecrated by Paderborn Archbishop Lorenz Jaeger .

After the local reorganization in 1973, the parishes were also restructured. In March 1980, the Maria Königin church in Isselhorst was assigned to the Holy Family community as a branch church. So far it was a branch church of the parish vicarie St. Michael in Ummeln .

On March 1, 1981, the former parish vicarie was raised to an independent parish. On April 1st of that year the former vicar was introduced as pastor in the Holy Family congregation. In 1984 the parish hall was expanded.

On January 1, 2000, the pastoral association Gütersloh-Nordring was set up, to which the Holy Family congregation with the Maria Königin branch church together with the Christ König congregation were assigned.

Furnishing

The organ was donated to the community on December 4th, 1988 by the organ support group. It was built by the Orgelbau Simon company in Borgentreich- Muddenhagen . It has 19 stops on two manuals (Hauptwerk and Schwellwerk ) and a pedal . It has a mechanical action and slider drawer .

The altar is made of Anröchter stone and the sides are faced with clinker brick. The altar cross was made in the locksmith's shop of Claas -Guss Christopherushütte.
