Hein Sinken (born October 21, 1914 in Aachen , † 1987 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor who created works of figurative, abstract and kinetic art .
biography
Sinken worked as a traditional sculptor in Berlin since 1932. He created reliefs , busts (among others by Herbert von Karajan ) and monuments in public spaces . In 1949 he received the Prize for Sculpture from the Potsdam District Council . In order to escape the pressure in the GDR in the artistic creation of Socialist Realism , he went to the West and moved to his native city of Aachen, where he became known with his works. In 1962 he moved to West Berlin , where he left many works. From 1966 to 1971 he was a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin .
In 1966, Sinken created his first wind kinetic object: windmill, aerokinetic plastic , which quickly became known in Germany. In 1970 he took part in the exhibition Street Art Hanover 1970 in Hanover ; the work he created there was bought by the city of Heidelberg in 1972 . From 1972 onwards, Sinken received technical support from Michael Wendt in his studio work. In 1982 Sinken took part in documenta 7 in Kassel , and his object Balance was awarded a 1st prize. It is still at the place in Kassel chosen by the artist . When Sinken died in 1987, he was buried in the Heidefriedhof in Berlin. One of his kinetic works was placed on his grave.
