Heinrich Kurz (Bishop)

Heinrich Kurz († July 21, 1557 in Passau ) was titular bishop of Chrysopolis and auxiliary bishop in Passau .

Life

Born in Regensburg, Heinrich Kurz was from 1523 to 1528 official and vicar general of the Bishop of Passau for the land under the Enns. On March 14, 1526, he was appointed Bishop of Chrysopolis and Auxiliary Bishop in Passau as the successor to the late Bernhard Meurl and at the same time provost of the Collegiate Foundation of St. Salvator in Passau- Ilzstadt . From 1530 to 1541 he was pastor in Tulln , Lower Austria. In 1537 he took part in the Mühldorf Conference of the Salzburg Church Province as a representative of the administrator Ernst von Bayern ( Mühldorf am Inn , January 10-15, 1537). Bishop Kurz supported the plan for a general council but, like many other participants, demanded that a provincial synod be convened beforehand, to which the representatives of the secular princes should also be invited. This was opened on May 15, 1537 in Salzburg. Kurz also represented the Diocese of Passau there .

From 1549 to 1551, Kurz served as the official and vicar general of the Bishop of Passau for the region above the Enns. In the last years of his life he headed the diocese of Passau on behalf of the sick Bishop Wolfgang von Closen . He died in Passau in 1557 and was buried in the St. Andrew's Chapel in the cathedral cloister. He bequeathed his library of over 600 volumes to the University of Ingolstadt .
