Nicholas capes
Nikolaus Kaps (* around 1435 in the Diocese of Passau ; † April 1512 ) was Bishop of Hippos and auxiliary bishop in Passau and Gurk.
Life
Nikolaus Kaps was born around 1435 in the Diocese of Passau . From 1464 to 1471 he was in the service of Emperor Friedrich III. Had the great influence he and his valuable miter and a crosier presented. According to his own statements, Emperor Maximilian I also used him for diplomatic tasks.
On March 14, 1490, he was appointed bishop of Hippos (in Palestine ) and consecrated in Rome on April 4, 1491. He was auxiliary bishop in Passau and Gurk, the first in the history of the Gurk diocese. As such, he resided in Strasbourg .
From 1493 to 1497 he only worked for the Diocese of Passau. The Gurk Bishop Raimund Peraudi , who as Chancellor of Emperor Friedrich III. and papal indulgence preacher was constantly outside his diocese, made him his vicar general in Rome on May 1, 1499 and gave him powers. Since the provost saw reason to diminish his rights, conflicts arose between Peraudi and the cathedral chapter. The provost of the cathedral accused by Peraudi in Rome had to answer before the papal curia. Auxiliary Bishop Kaps renounced the administration of the diocese of Gurk on June 5, 1501 in favor of Matthäus Lang , who had meanwhile been appointed diocesan administrator . He lived in Salzburg since 1504 at the latest and received a pension from the diocese of Gurk . At the provincial chapter in Salzburg in 1511 he represented Bishop Lang. In 1512 he was unable to attend the chapter due to illness. He died in April 1512. Nikolaus Kaps was also one of the teachers of the young Paracelsus .
