Sigismund Pirchan

Sigismund Pirchan (* around 1390 in Rosenberg ; † June 15, 1472 in Enns ) was abbot of the Hohenfurt monastery and auxiliary bishop in Passau .

Life

Sigismund Pirchan first appeared in 1414 as a monk of the Hohenfurt Monastery. During the Hussite Wars , like most other monks, he had to leave the monastery and found refuge in the Minorite monastery in Český Krumlov for several years . There he was elected abbot after his predecessor Pribislaus had resigned. In this function he worked several times as Ulrich von Rosenberg 's envoy , whom he probably accompanied to the Basel Council as early as 1433 . As an emissary of the economically bled Rosenberger, he also traveled to Emperor Sigismund in Bruck an der Mur in order to raise funds for the fight against the Hussites , but probably had little success.

Back in Basel in 1441 , he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Passau by Pope Felix V with the titular seat of Salona , while maintaining the abbot dignity. Since this regulation violated the statutes of the Cistercian order , the Hohenfurt convent demanded a new abbot election, which was carried out in 1442. After that, Sigismund only appears as auxiliary bishop, when he carried out several ordinations in Upper Austria and Bohemia, and in 1465 an altar consecration in Hohenfurt.

In the last years of his life he was no longer able to take office due to reasons of age, he lived in his bishop's residence in Enns, where he died in 1472 and was buried in the Laurentius Church.
