Heinrich von Bünau (born April 6, 1789 in Guttentag ; † May 11, 1864 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Heinrich von Bünau came from the Weesenstein branch of the Vogtland nobility of the von Bünau family . He was the son of the lieutenant of the same name a. D. (* 1757; † 1817) and his wife Philippine, née von Stümer.

Military career

Bünau was a cadet in Berlin from August 10, 1803 to December 28, 1806 and was then transferred as an ensign to the 3rd East Prussian Reserve Battalion of the Prussian Army . During the Fourth Coalition War in 1807 he successfully defended the Graudenz fortress . On October 29, 1810, Bünau was promoted to second lieutenant with a patent from January 23, 1808 . At the end of June 1812 he came to the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 4 , with which he participated in the battles near Möckern , Halle , Luckau , Hoyerswerda, Antwerp, Compiègne, Crépy, the assault on Arnhem and the battles during the Wars of Liberation 1813/15 Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Ligny and Belle-Alliance were involved. Bünau also took part in the sieges of the fortress Mainz and Gorkum. By the end of the war he had risen to become captain and company commander . For his achievements he was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and the Russian Order of St. Vladimir IV class.

On May 30, 1831, he was promoted to major and appointed commander of the III. Battalion of the 28th Landwehr Regiment. Nine years later he was transferred to the 38th Infantry Regiment and on September 14, 1841 Bünau was promoted to lieutenant colonel . As such, he was commissioned on August 11, 1842 with the command of the 40th Infantry Regiment. Bünau was finally appointed regimental commander shortly thereafter and promoted to colonel on March 30, 1844 . On September 22, 1847 was approved by presentation of the character as a major general and board his resignation.

He died in Berlin and was buried on May 14, 1864 in the Hasenheide garrison cemetery.

Bünau married Karoline Auguste Eggeling on March 24, 1833 in Gatersleben (born March 3, 1813 in Alt-Gatersleben; † January 21, 1898 in Charlottenburg ). The following children were born from the marriage:
