Heinrich Ludwig Georg von Knobelsdorff (born December 18, 1775 in Wuthenow , Soldin district , † September 11, 1826 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and inspector of the guard cavalry.

Life

His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm von Knobelsdorff (1744-1813) and his wife Amalie Luise, born von Schmiedeberg (1746-1796) from the Zeinicke family.

Military career

Knobelsdorff was brought up on his parents' farm and joined the Prussian Army's "von Wylich and Lottum" dragoon regiment as a private corporal in 1790 . There he became an ensign on May 4, 1792 and during the First Coalition War took part in the cannonade of Valmy , the battles of Stromberg, Kettrich, the battles at Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern and the sieges of Verdun and Landau . During that time he became second lieutenant on December 19, 1793 .

After the war, Knobelsdorff was transferred to the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps on July 17, 1798 , and on July 8, 1799 he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant and Regimental Adjutant . On February 2, 1803 he was staff captain and in the run-up to the Fourth Coalition War on September 20, 1806 Rittmeister and company commander . During the war he fought in the battle of Auerstedt . After the war he rose to major .

In the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Haynau , Leipzig , Brienne and Arcis-sur-Aube . On May 19, 1813 Knobelsdorff received the Iron Cross II. He died of exhaustion in Berlin on September 11, 1826 and was buried in the garrison cemetery on September 13, 1826 . In 1855 he was reburied in the Dyrotz cemetery, where he was given a grave next to his daughter.

Knobelsdorff married on November 16, 1802 in Potsdam Friederike von Rauch (1783-1810), a daughter of Major General Bonaventura von Rauch and his wife Johanna, née Bandel. Friederike von Rauch was the sister of the Prussian Minister of War and General of the Infantry Gustav von Rauch and the Prussian Generals Leopold and Friedrich Wilhelm von Rauch .
