action
Gisèle and Alain Gaash are a French-Jewish couple in their 50s who lead a comfortable life in Paris . Alain is a gynecologist and Gisèle once converted to the Jewish faith for him. After her son's wedding, Gisèle persuades her husband to travel to Israel, where they spend happy days together. Back in France, Gisèle is determined to start a new life in Tel Aviv . Alain is anything but impressed with this idea and hopes that a new car would be enough for his wife. However, when she threatens to divorce, Alain finally agrees.
Back in Israel, the new life turns out to be more difficult than expected: Alain's job in a hospital, which was believed to be safe, is canceled, the paid house is not finished and the container with her furniture went overboard on the crossing. In addition, neither of them speak a word of Hebrew . While Alain threatens to despair, Gisèle adapts to her new surroundings with enthusiasm. She also wanted to be part of religious Jewish life and got to know the young Rabbi Yossi. At her insistence, Alain decides to do his circumcision, which, although he is Jewish, was never performed on him.
To earn money, Alain takes a job as a car washer. Meanwhile, Gisèle believes he continues to work as a doctor. When Alain helps a pregnant woman give birth in a restaurant, he realizes that he wants to go back to his old job and his old life, especially since he is convinced that Gisèle is cheating on him with Rabbi Yossi. Gisèle feels drawn to Yossi, but he rejects her when he tries to get closer. When Alain decides to return to Paris, Gisèle refuses to go with him. Alain is arrested by the Israeli police at the airport. After convincing the officials that he is not an enemy of the state, he returns to Gisèle in Tel Aviv. However, it is no longer there. She followed him to the airport, where they happily embrace each other. They decide to stay in Israel and try again.

Reviews
The lexicon of international films described Hello Goodbye - a decision made out of love as a “largely failed comedy without goal and direction”, in which “the motivations of the protagonists remain unclear”. The film is “nothing more than an advertising brochure for Israel”.
"Even Gérard Depardieu and Fanny Ardant don't get this comedy going," said Cinema . In the film, “with all this effortful humor every now and then” one can see “what potential satire and slapstick has gone over the Jordan here”. The result was a "[m] üde number revue instead of pointed satire". According to Prisma , it is a "not particularly original, but nevertheless funny and bizarre directorial work by Graham Guit", in which the two main actors "once again verbally skillfully play the balls".
