Helmuth Becker (born September 3, 1929 in Münster ; † May 20, 2011 ibid) was a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1980 to 1982 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Post and Telecommunications and from 1990 to 1994 Vice President of the German Bundestag . From 1995 to 2000 Becker was President of the "Association of Former Members of the German Bundestag and the European Parliament". From 1995 to 1999 he was President of the Central Association of Engineering Associations (ZBI) and then Chairman of the ZBI Advisory Board, of which he was a member until his death.

education and profession

After attending secondary school and engineering school in Lage , Becker completed a degree in electrical engineering . From 1951 to 1969 he worked as an engineer in the telecommunications system of the Deutsche Bundespost , from 1957 onwards he was a member of various staff representatives, most recently in the main staff council at the Federal Ministry for Post and Telecommunications . From 1968 to 1976 he was second district chairman of the Deutsche Postgewerkschaft (DPG) in the Münster district.

family

Helmuth Becker was married and had three children.

Political party

He has been a member of the SPD since 1964. From 1972 to 1976 he was a member of the SPD state executive in North Rhine-Westphalia and was a member of the SPD federal executive from 1982 to 1986.

MP

From 1969 to 1994 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was from 1976 to 1980 and from 1983 to 1990 Parliamentary Managing Director of the SPD parliamentary group . From 1990 to 1994 he was Vice President of the German Bundestag.

Becker has always entered the German Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Public offices

After the federal election in 1980 , Becker was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Post and Telecommunications in the federal government led by Chancellor Helmut Schmidt on November 6, 1980 . After Helmut Kohl had been elected Chancellor, Becker left the government on October 4, 1982.
