Hemky Madera (born January 26, 1977 in Queens , New York City , New York ) is an American actor of Dominican descent.

life and career

Hemky Madera was born to Dominicans Luis and Gisela Madera in the New York borough of Queens, while the latter was visiting their sister there. Due to pregnancy complications, she had to give birth in the seventh month. After giving birth, they moved back to Santiago de los Caballeros . After graduating from the Santiago Christian School with a degree in marketing, he tried to gain a foothold in the acting business and worked with the director Alonso Rodriguez . After a few smaller local productions, he moved to New York and worked there on the short film The Bookie's Lament , which was released in 2000. In addition, he took acting lessons and was at The Actors Studio for various classic productions, including Life is a Dream , Mirandolina and Chronicle of an Heralded Death , on the theater stage.

Soon after, he was able to make his debut in a feature film in 2008 with a small role in the film Dreaming of Julia , in which Harvey Keitel and Gael García Bernal also starred . In 2005 he took on the role of Miliciano in The Lost City . In 2009 he took on a supporting role as Tavo in the film La Soga - Born Innocent . In 2010 he played Hector in the movie King of the Avenue . In 2011 he lent his voice to the character Chorizo in the animated film Rango . He took on one of his most famous film roles to date in 2017 as bodega owner Mr. Delmar in the Marvel film Spider-Man: Homecoming .

In addition to his film appearances, Madera also appears regularly in television series. He played one of his biggest roles to date as Ignacio in Weeds - Little Deals Among Neighbors , between 2008 and 2010. Since 2016 he has appeared as Pote Galvez in Queen of the South .
