Davids became a professional tennis player in 1988. He wasn't particularly successful in singles. In the course of his career he could not win a tournament on the ATP World Tour , on the ATP Challenger Tour he won a tournament in Malta in 1994 through the final victory over Martin Sinner . In contrast, he was significantly more successful in doubles, winning a total of seven double titles; he was also in a double-final twelve times, including the 1994 ATP Championship Series tournament in Milan . He reached his highest ranking in the ATP world rankings in 1996 with place 171 in singles and in 1994 with place 26 in doubles.
His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was his first round participation in 1997 at Wimbledon , when he lost to Neville Godwin in three straight sets. In doubles, he reached the quarter-finals of the French Open in 1993 and the round of 16 at Wimbledon, the round of 16 of the Australian Open in 1994 and the quarter-finals of the US Open in 1996 . At the side of Miriam Oremans , he also made it to the quarter-finals of the US Open mixed competition in 1997 .
