Henry Kim Domercant (born December 30, 1980 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American - Bosnian basketball player . After studying in his home country, Domercant played as a professional in Europe since 2003 . After stints in Turkey and a year with Olympiacos in Greece , he has been playing in Russia since 2007 , interrupted by two years with the Italian series champion Montepaschi Siena between 2008 and 2010. In the 2012/13 season he is under contract with Galatasaray from Istanbul . Domercant has also been a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2005 , for which he competes in international games.

Career

During his studies at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston , Domercant played for the university team Panthers in the Ohio Valley Conference of NCAA Division I. In 2001 they won the conference title and then lost the first round game of the national finals clearly against the Wildcats of the University of Arizona . Domercant stood out as an exceptional "scorer" on the university team, which was not particularly successful in basketball, in the conference, which was not made up of high-ranking players, and scored a total of 2,602 points in his four-year college career. In his last three seasons he was among the top five players in this ranking in the entire NCAA with his scoring average (points average per game). With 26.4 points and 27.9 points per game, he was even the second best point collector per game in 2002 and 2003. In 2009 he was inducted into the “Athletics Hall of Fame” ( German Hall of Fame of Sports ) at his university, alongside American football player Tony Romo .

After the end of his studies, Domercant was not selected in the NBA draft of the highest US professional league NBA despite his impressive personal statistics, but instead only in the draft of the less significant CBA by the Yakima Sun Kings . The CBA found itself in trouble after the founding of the NBA Development League in 2001 and Domercant preferred to sign a professional contract in Europe. So he moved for the 2003/04 season in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi to Pınar Karşıyaka in Izmir . The club was able to take fourth place in the regular season and for the first time since the championship in 1987 again reach the semi-final series in the play-offs . Domercant scored 23.4 points per game in a good 39 minutes of play and was the second best point collector in the TBL. Then he was hired by the master Efes Pilsen from the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul . For Efes he was able to defend the championship title in 2005. After the end of the season he took Bosnian citizenship and played in the jersey of his new adopted home in the 2005 European Championship finals , in which the Bosnian national team again lost all three preliminary round matches and were eliminated early. In his second season at Efes Pilsen, his game shares and his points average fell to less than 10 points per game. The final series for the championship was lost against Ülkerspor , but the national cup competition could be won. For the 2006/07 season he switched to the Greek A1 Ethniki to Olympiacos from Piraeus . With the club he reached the final series of the Greek championship, which was lost in five games against series champion Panathinaikos Athens . In the top European league ULEB Euroleague Domercant reached the quarter-finals with Olympiakos as before twice with Efes Pilsen.

In 2007 Domercant decided to move to the Russian club MBK Dynamo from Moscow . This team was coached by Svetislav Pešić in the 2007/08 season . The team started with high expectations after the quarter-finals in the ULEB Euroleague 2006/07 , but could not fully meet them. So they finished third in the 2008 Russian championship and third in the 2007/08 ULEB Cup , in which Domercant was named MVP of the group stage. He then moved to the Italian Lega Basket Serie A for series champion Montepaschi from Siena . With the club from Tuscany , he won the triple of championship, cup and Supercoppa twice at national level in 2008/09 and 2009/10 . In the ULEB Euroleague 2008/09 was from Domercant's point of view again the last stop in the quarter-finals, in the following season they were eliminated very narrowly with only one point difference in a direct comparison in the second round of the sixteen best teams. Subsequently, Domercant moved again to Russia to BK Spartak from Saint Petersburg . In the EuroChallenge competition, the 2011 Russian Cup title holder, which was played without the Russian participants in the Eastern European VTB United League , entered the Final Four tournament with high expectations , but lost in the semifinals to national rivals Lokomotiw Kuban-Krasnodar and then also the small final against the Belgian host Telenet Oostende . By increasing the number of participants in the 2011 European Championship finals , Bosnia-Herzegovina was qualified for a continental finals for the first time since 2005. Against Montenegro it was the first ever victory in a final round. After a disastrous 64:92 defeat against Finland , they failed in a three-way comparison because they made it to the intermediate round of the top twelve teams.

For the 2011/12 season Domercant switched to the ULEB Eurocup winner UNICS Kazan, who are qualified for the 2011/12 ULEB Euroleague after winning the title in the second most important European competition in 2011 . With UNICS he reached the quarter-final play-off series at its premiere in the highest-ranking European club competition, in which, from Domercant's point of view, it was again the final destination. In the national Russian league PBL they missed the final round of the best four teams and finished in fifth place, while they came to the final in the Eastern European VTB United League , where they were defeated by the Russian series champion PBK CSKA Moscow . For the 2012/13 season Domercant went back to Turkey, where he started his professional career, and plays for Galatasaray from Istanbul.
