Herbert Kremp

Herbert Kremp (born August 12, 1928 in Munich ; † March 21, 2020 in Kleve-Schenkenschanz ) was a German journalist and publicist . Among other things, he was editor-in-chief of the Rheinische Post and the world .

Life

Kremp actually wanted to become a pianist and took lessons from Friedrich Gulda , but was changed by Franz Schnabel and Arnold J. Toynbee and studied constitutional law, philosophy and history at the University of Munich . From 1948 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Tuiskonia Munich in the Cartell Association of Catholic German student associations . In 1954 he was with the work of Spengler Overcoming cultural cycles theory by the World Age doctrine of the Heidelberg School and the Toynbee'sche doctrine of filiation of cultures over Oswald Spengler , Max Weber and Arnold Toynbee at the Faculty of Munich University doctorate . At the same time he studied economics in Frankfurt am Main . He completed his traineeship at the Frankfurter Neue Presse and in 1957 switched to his first editorial position at the Rheinische Post . In 1959 Kremp became editor of the Berlin daily newspaper Der Tag , in 1961 a correspondent for the Rheinische Post in the federal capital Bonn . In 1969 he became editor-in-chief of this newspaper.

From 1969 to 1985 he was editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Die Welt three times , and from 1985, succeeding Matthias Walden, also its publisher. He traveled the world again and again to comment on historical events, for example from 1977 to 1981 as chief correspondent for Die Welt in Deng Xiaoping's reform period in Beijing and in 1987 in Brussels as rapporteur for the EC and NATO .

Kremp had a friendship with the media entrepreneur Axel Springer .

Herbert Kremp died in March 2020 at the age of 91.
