The Hermann Löns Park in Braunschweig is a small park in the Südstadt district . The park has an area of 1.98 ha and is located on the Heidehöhe road.

history

The open space for the park was created back in the 1930s when the Mascheroder Holz settlement (today's Südstadt) was expanded and a green area was created between the residential buildings in the north. During the war, a pond was created on the green area. While the rest of the area was built on later and allotment gardens were created in the eastern part, the central part was converted into a public park.

This was created between 1952 and 1953 and was inaugurated on May 31, 1953 with a ceremony and named after the German journalist and writer Hermann Löns (1866–1914). Councilor Hans Leonhards, Lord Mayor Kurd Semler , City Director Erich Walter Lotz and City Horticultural Director Alexander Druxes were present at the inauguration ceremony . The festival program was supplemented by the appearance of the men's singing club Liedertafel Braunschweig-Süd and the girls of the sports club Braunschweig-Süd.

A playground and a football field were created in Hermann-Löns-Park. In addition, a roundabout was built, which is framed by a wall that can also be used as a bench. In 1953 a memorial stone for the war dead from the southern part of the city with the inscription "Den Toten" was erected in the western part of the park. The park area was designed by city horticultural director Alexander Druxes.
