Hermann Winkelmann , actually Hans Emil Friedrich Winkelmann (born March 8, 1847 in Braunschweig , † January 18, 1912 in Mauer near Vienna ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Live and act

Hermann Winkelmann, the son of the founder of the Braunschweig piano factory Zeitter & Winkelmann , Christian Ludewig Theodor Winkelmann , received his first engagements at various German theaters in 1875 after completing his training. In 1882 he was signed by Richard Wagner as the first Parsifal for the world premiere in Bayreuth and from then on sang regularly at the Bayreuth Festival , for example the Tannhauser . From 1883 to 1906 he worked as a hero tenor at the Vienna State Opera . In 1883 he was the first Tristan in a production by the Vienna State Opera. In the years 1880 to 1892 Winkelmann also appeared frequently in the Braunschweig State Theater . Several sound recordings of him have been preserved.

Winkelmann was married to the singer Emma Kind. His son Hans Winckelmann also became an opera singer.

He is buried at the Mauer (10-2-3) cemetery in Vienna.
